Optimization of warehouse and goods distribution in production facilities

Order

The assignment included the analysis of warehouse organization and goods distribution in the production facilities of two company divisions as well as the optimization of the internal flow of goods.

Situation

Two business units of an international stationery manufacturer shared premises in a historic production building. Continuous growth was reaching the capacity limits of the storage space and the performance of the existing warehousing software was unclear, leading to logistical bottlenecks.

Procedure

DI Experts carried out a comprehensive process analysis. First, the production facilities were visited on site and warehouse and production employees were interviewed in order to make the status quo transparent. DI Experts then documented all processes and evaluated the software used in terms of its suitability. Based on the data collected, DI Experts created detailed process flow charts illustrating the current status and recommended target processes and developed specific quick wins and business cases for medium and long-term improvements.

Result

The analysis revealed bottlenecks and potential for increasing efficiency and increased the transparency of processes with the process diagrams. The quick wins identified could be implemented with minimal use of resources, and the business cases presented provide a solid basis for strategic decisions on the further development of the warehouse organization.
